PETERSEN MEDIA: For the second weekend in a row Cory Eliason found himself in the mix, as he would pick up a third place finish at the Petaluma Speedway with the King of the West Series after leading laps early on in the night.
“We had a really good car, and I just made a bad lane choice on a late restart,” Eliason said. “I made the wrong call, and we flat got beat.”
Making his first start with the King of the West Series since his weekend sweep back in July, Eliason would time his self owned No.00 machine in ninth fastest at the Bay Area’s bullring.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Eliason would seize his opportunity as the Kingsburg, CA driver would get the jump and race his way to the all-important heat race win.
With his win, Eliason would earn a spot in the Dash, where his second place finish would put him on the front row of the 30-lap feature event. From his front row starting position, Eliason would hammer the loud pedal when the green flag flew and take the early lead.
On a slick Petaluma Speedway, Eliason looked very comfortable out front as he quickly opened up a healthy advantage and soon found himself mired in lapped traffic. Even though forced to deal with slower cars, Eliason remained poised as he kept his challengers at bay.
Eliason’s lead would evaporate with waiving of the caution flag on the 17th lap. In double file formation, Eliason would see Shane Golobic get the jump on him and he would then have his hands full with Bud Kaeding as they fought for the second position.
After a few laps of battling, Eliason would slip to the third spot as Kaeding go the advantage on him. The final laps would see Eliason and Chase Johnson tussle for the final spot on the podium, but Eliason would hold the spot as he scored another podium finish.
“I am a little mad at myself because we had a car that should have won the race, but it is part of it,” Eliason said. “We forget about this one and look forward to Gold Cup week.”
The Van Dyke Motorsports team would like to thank Lucas Oil, Hansen Machine, NAAKE Suspension, Maxim Chassis, and Moyle Racing Engines for their support during the year.
2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 36, Wins-6, Top-5’s-12, Top-10’s-20
ON TAP: Eliason will return to action during the Gold Cup Race of Champions that kicks off on September 7th in Chico, CA.
