PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing back aboard the Van Dyke Motorsports entry on Friday night at Ocean Speedway, Cory Eliason would nurse a battered car up to a third place finish when the dust settled on a wild feature event.

“It was a really good night for the race team,” Cory Eliason said. “In the feature we were going good, but something went south and it led to contact with the wall and caused a bit of damage. Luckily we were still able to still finish third despite a broken shock, ladder, and bird cage.”

With 24 cars checked into the pit area, Eliason would time the Lucas Oil/Hansen Machine/NAAKE Suspension backed No. 5h in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials before a third place finish during his heat race.

Pulling the four pill in the Dash draw, Eliason would start and finish in the fourth spot, which would ultimately place the Kingsburg, CA pilot in the second row of the feature event.

When the action came to life, Eliason got off to a very nice start as he ran in the lead pack for the first few laps until a part went south and his car got a little out of shape and into the wall as he fell back to the fifth spot.

The race’s first 22-laps would go non-stop and Eliason would doo all he could to keep the car under him as handing became tough with damage to the right-rear corner. Continuing to run in the Top-Five when the cautions began to fly after the 22nd lap, Eliason would avoid a lap 28-pile up and pick up a couple of positions.

Chasing after DJ Netto for the second spot in the final laps, Eliason would end his night with a third place finish.

“It’s been great to driver the Van Dyke car this year,” Eliason said. “Harley Van Dyke and his guys give me a great car, and we always seem to be right in the thick of things. Hopefully we can go get another win on Friday night in Hanford, CA.”

The Van Dyke Motorsports team would like to thank Lucas Oil, Hansen Machine, NAAKE Suspension, Maxim Chassis, and Moyle Racing Engines for their support during the year.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 41, Wins-7, Top-5’s-14, Top-10’s-22
