PETERSEN MEDIA: Andy Gregg and the GUTS Racing team made the trip to Tulare, CA to take part in the Peter Murphy Classic with both the Sprint Car Challenge Tour and the King of the West Series. When the two-day program wrapped up Saturday night, Gregg could best describe the trip as eventful.

“It was an weekend for our race team,” Andy Gregg said. “We got two flat tires in Friday’s feature event and had to make up some ground, and on Saturday night we were too light after qualifying and again had to try and recover until a B Main incident ended our night.”

The weekend kicked off on Friday night with the Spritn Car Challenge Tour. Gregg would get the weekend underway by timing the GUTS/Angius and Terry LLP/Capitol Ace Hardware machine in fourth fastest in his qualifying group.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Diamond Springs, CA pilot would feel contact from his fellow front row starter and it would result in nose wing damage that ultimately saw Gregg pull into the infield on the fifth lap.

Forced into the ‘B’, Gregg would handle business, as his fourth place finish would transfer him into the 35-lap ‘A’ Main event. Lining up 19th, Gregg would have issues during the race’s first caution on the 11th lap as he made a trip to the work area to repair a flat.

Able to return to action, Gregg would tag the back of the pack until another flat tire on the 22nd lap would force him to bring out the caution. Able to again make repairs, Gregg would pick up a few positions in the final 13 laps as he would finish in the 14th spot.

Switching to his 410ci engine on Saturday night, Gregg would time in fourth fastest in his qualifying flight, but would come up light at the scales and his time would be disallowed.

Forced to the back of the fourth heat, Gregg would finish seventh and be forced into the night’s Last Chance Showdown. While trying to work his way forward and race into the PMC feature event, contact on the seventh lap would see significant damage to Gregg’s front end bring his eventful weekend to an early end.

“It was good to have speed in both cars, but we just had some circumstances not go our way,” Gregg said. “I have to thank everyone who supports this team and helps us out, and hopefully we can get going this weekend in Petaluma, CA.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, Angius and Terry LLP, Capitol ACE Hardware, Ice House Resort, CTL Forest Management, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Broadband Agreements, Russo Insurance, Kelly Moore Paints, Cal Pro Paint and Construction, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N,  King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, and MF Inc. for their support in 2017.

ON TAP: Gregg will follow the Sprint Car Challenge Series to Petaluma, CA on Saturday night.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-4, Wins- 0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-0
