Forgettable Forni For Peterson

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action with the California Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster, Matt Peterson had a feature event he would soon like to forget, after a lap 13 wreck ended his night early.

“We were solid all night, until the feature,” Matt Peterson said. “I struggled to get in a rhythm and it showed.”

Taking on 33 of the regions top drivers, Peterson kicked the 9th Annual Mark Forni Classic off by timing his V&H Fresh/Miller Lite/Inventory Sales entry in eighth fastest, putting him in the second row of his heat race.

Finishing in the third spot, Peterson would transfer to the feature event, but would just narrowly miss out on a spot in the dash, meaning he would start the 30-lap feature event from the eleventh position.

“We qualified really well, but we were just in the wrong spot with this format, but it’s good to have speed,” he added.

Lining up in the sixth row for the 30-lap feature event, the field bottlenecked in the first corner of the race, and Peterson got into the back of another car, but was able to continue on without stopping or causing any major damage to his machine.

“There wasn’t any damage after the contact on the first lap, but something just felt off after that,” Peterson explained.

On a surface that didn’t allow much passing as the bottom of the speedway was still very fast, Peterson tried making up ground as he worked the thick cushion, but it did not work out to him.

Getting up over the cushion on a couple of occasions, Peterson soon found his Bear Trucking/Future Energy Savers/Transportation Services entry in the back of the pack, as he continued to get into a rhythm.

On the 13th lap, Peterson lost the handle of his machine in turn four, and as he was spinning, contact ensued with Andy Forsberg, and it resulted in Peterson’s night coming to an end.

“The feature event just felt like a bad dream,” Peterson added. “I have to thank my guys and my family for giving me a good car, the driver just let the team down, but we learn from these tough nights.”

Matt and his team would like to thank V&H Fresh, Miller Lite, Inventory Sales Company, Bear Trucking, Future Energy Savers, Transportation Services, The Oil Medics, Shell Shock, and MTFX Graphics for their support in 2014.

ON TAP: Peterson and his team will be back in action on Saturday night at the Petaluma Speedway.
