Forgettable Visit To Ocean Speedway for Joe Stornetta

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking on the Wingless Series presented by Joe Hunt Magnetos on Saturday night at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA, Joe Stornetta had a night that started out nice, and quickly went down hill.
“We timed in well, and then from that point on our night went down hill,” Stornetta said.
With battery issues forcing his machine to get push started for each race, Stornetta would find himself lining up at the tail end of the field in each race he participated in.
Lining up scratch on the field during his heat race, the Napa, CA driver would race his way up to a fourth place finish where he would earn a spot in the nightly dash. Lining up eighth in the Dash, Stornetta would work his way forward a few positions as he netted a fifth place finish.
Scheduled to start in the third row for the 25-lap feature event, Stornetta’s issue put him in the 23rd starting position on what was an extremely slicked off racing surface. With the track still racy, Stornetta was able to search around the speedway as he worked his way forward.
Able to use the top in one and two to make up most of his ground, Stornetta was well on his way to salvage his night. Getting into the 12th spot with just 10 laps to go, Stornetta would get up over the thick cushion that was built up in turns three and four and pack his right-rear wheel full of mud, causing a severe vibration.
Bringing his machine to a stop, Stornetta would go back to the work area to attempt to empty his right-rear out, but upon returning to the work area, the race would go back green, and Stornetta would be unable to return to the track and was credited with a 22nd place finish.
“It was a little frustrating having to start at the tail end of every race we were in, but we had a good car each time out, and we were able to move forward,” Stornetta said. “The feature event we had a nice run going, but we packed the right-rear full and didn’t have time to rectify the situation in the work area.”
Joe Stornetta would like to thank JPS Trucking, The Geide Family, OK Tire Store, iWear Motorsports, Parmeter General Engineering Service, X Winery, Bergin Glass, LJ’s Speed & Machine Shop, Rick Lawley Trucking, Black Hawk Body Shop, and The Holman Family for their support.
ON TAP: Stornetta will be back in action with the Wingless Series on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA.
