PETERSEN MEDIA- A wild 13th Annual Mark Forni Classic culminated with Andy Forsberg recording his 18th Top-Five finish of the season as he advanced from his ninth starting position to finish fifth.
“It was about as slick as it could get and we had our work cut out for ourselves coming from ninth,” Andy Forsberg said. “It was a wild feature event, and we somehow made it up to fifth when it came to a close.”
Timing the F&F Racing No. x1 sprinter in fifth quickest in time trials, Forsberg would either need to win his heat or have a little help to make the redraw. Finishing third aboard the Econo-Lube-n-Tune & Brakes/Geico Local Office/PitStopUSA machine, Forsberg would not get the help he needed and would line up in the ninth starting position for the 30-lap feature event.
On a very slick surface, the current Placerville Speedway point leader would work his way up to fifth on a lap five restart. Continuing to battle, Forsberg would actually slip back to ninth just before the race’s half way point.
Having his hands full at times, Forsberg would continue to work around the ¼ mile as he slipped back to 10th during the feature event. Fighting to keep himself afloat inside the Top-10, a late restart on the 17th lap would see him jump into ninth before moving into fifth two laps later.
Chasing after Sean Becker who ran ahead of him, Forsberg would look to close in on his longtime rival in the closing laps, but on this night, ‘Mr. Excitement’ would take the checkered flag in fifth.
“I am not really sure how we did it, but it turned out to be a nice result in a really wild feature event,” Andy Forsberg said. “My guys did a great job and we survived. Looking forward to doing it all again this weekend.”
