PETERSEN MEDIA- After Sean Becker was involved in a hard crash on Friday night in Stockton, CA, Menne Motorsports made the call to have Andy Forsberg fill in for the King of the West finale, and Forsberg would be the first to tell you it didn’t go as hoped.
“First off I want to wish Sean Becker well, and hope he has a speedy recovery,” Andy Forsberg said. “Secondly, I want to thank the Menne family for the opportunity to fill in. It’s the second time I have driven in place of Sean this year, and it is crazy to me how different we like our cars.”
Timing the Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Cherry Street Mini Storage/Menne Ranch Hay, Inc. backed No. 75 in 13th quickest in qualifying time trials, the 2017 Civil War Series Champion was able to race his way into a dash spot by way of his third place finish in his heat race.
Finishing ninth in the Dash, the Auburn, CA driver was set to take the green flag for the 30-lap feature event from the fifth row. Running inside the Top-10 for the first handful of laps, Forsberg would lose the handle in turns three and four on lap nine.
After the mishap, Forsberg would opt to call it a night and return the Menne Motorsports machine to the trailer in one piece and allow the team the opportunity to get ready for 2018.
“I couldn’t believe I spun out like a total rookie,” Forsberg said. “I was hoping to put together a good run for the Shark and the Menne’s but the smartest thing I did was pull of early while the car was in one piece. Again, huge thanks to the Menne family, and again sending well wishes to the Becker family.”
