Forsberg Finishes 10th in Tulare, CA
PETERSEN MEDIA- With the Thunderbowl Raceway typically not kind to him, Andy Forsberg was happy to close Friday night’s feature out with a 10th place finish with the F&F Racing team.
“TO finish 10th at Thunderbowl Raceway is great,” Andy Forsberg said. “Heading into Friday’s event, I think the last time I actually finished a race there was back in 2014 or something. So, as they say to finish first, first you must finish so we accomplished that.”
With 40 cars checked in for Friday night’s Peter Murphy Classic opener, Forsberg would be in a tight qualifying group as he timed in fifth quickest in his group, missing out on fourth and a front row heat race starting position by .001 seconds.
Finding himself in the third row of his heat, the Auburn, CA driver would race the Econo Lube-n-Tune and Brakes/Geico Local Office/Lucas Oil backed No. x1 machine to a fifth place finish and punch his ticket into the 30-lap feature event.
Gridding the field from the 17th starting position, Forsberg would do a great job of avoiding a multi car wreck that took place getting into turn one as the field attempted to complete the first lap of the race.
Avoiding another wreck down the back stretch on the restart, Forsberg would take what he was given as he would start the race from just outside the Top-10 once thing settled down.
The slick surface that was offered up to the field on Friday night would soon take rubber, and Forsberg would settle into 10th, after a few laps of jockeying for position.
Keeping his tires securely in the rubber, where much of the field was, Forsberg would do what it took to get to the finish line as he accepted the checkered flag with a 10th place finish.
“We did a great job of avoiding some of the early carnage, and were able to pick up some easy spots,” Forsberg added. “I think I may have only passed one or two cars before the rubber came, but we did what we had to do from the back and came away with a Top-10.”
