PETERSEN MEDIA- Attacking the Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night during the second PitStopUSA Shootout race, Andy Forsberg and the C&M Motorsports would come up just a few laps short of victory as the Auburn, CA would settle for second at the stripe.

“I thought I had him covered,” Forsberg said. “I thought I was there and then I see him (Chase Johnson) get under me and drive away and we end up second.”

With a little extra money on the line, and a berth in the Adobe Cup Dash that takes place in the fall, Forsberg got his night started off by timing the PitStopUSA/Autism Awareness/Pacific Highway Rentals No. 7c machine in quickest during the night’s time trial session.

Finishing fourth in his heat race, Forsberg would line the C&M Motorsports machine up in the second row for the 25-lap feature event.

When the green flag dropped, Forsberg would avoid a car that bicycled in front of him as he took the second spot and began his pursuit of early leader, Kurt Nelson. Keeping Nelson in his sights, Forsberg would close in on the lead on the fifth lap and would take advantage of Nelson’s misfortune on the seventh lap as he took over the race lead.

Out front, Forsberg was strong as navigated around the Petaluma Speedway with Chase Johnson and Seth Nunes trying to track him down. An extended green flag run would see lapped traffic come into the equation, and though Forsberg would feel pressure from his competition, he would make quick work of traffic and again open his lead back up.

Following a restart on the 17th lap, Forsberg would flex his muscles as he pulled away from the field and simply left the field in his wake. Forsberg looked to be well on his way to his fifth win of the year until the caution flag flew with just three laps to go.

This restart would see Johnson hang right with him, and pull even with him as they took the white flag. Giving it all he had, Forsberg would look to fend off Johnson, but coming to the checkered, Johnson would get more bite under Forsberg and grab the win at the stripe, leaving Forsberg in the second spot.

“He had to drive some perfect laps on that last run, and he did just that,” Forsberg said. “It’s no fun to lose a race like that, but we will come back next weekend and see if we cant get back on top of the podium.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank PitStopUSA, Autism Awareness, Pacific Highway Rentals, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, and Velocity Race Gear and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
