PETERSEN MEDIA- Heading to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night to take on the King of the West Series, Andy Forsberg and his C&M Motorsports team had a very good night going until an accident on the opening lap of the feature event forced them back to their trailer.
“We were pretty fast all night long, but unfortunately we got put in a bad spot on the opening lap of the main,” Forsberg said. “It was intentional by any means, we just got up in the junk with a full fuel load and it didn’t work out.”
Timing the PitStopUSA/Autism Awareness/Pacific Highway Rentals No. 7c machine in fifth fastest amongst the 26 cars that were checked into the pit area, the Auburn, CA driver would race his way to a third place finish in his heat race and make himself eligible for the all important dash.
Gridding the field from the fourth row for the six-lap shootout, Forsberg was able to make some big moves to improve his main ever starting position. On a tricky surface following a wet storm cell the day before, ‘Mr. Excitement’ lived up to his name as he finished in the fourth spot.
Taking the green flag from the second row for the 30-lap feature event, cars jockeyed for position on the race’s opening lap. Getting forced higher than he would have liked in turns three and four, Forsberg’s machine would get above the cushion and it would result in his machine getting upside down.
Though his team tried to make repairs during the stoppage, the damage would be too significant and his night would come to an early end.
“The way it worked out, if I lift and follow I probably race to see another lap, but you have to make that decision in a split second and I didn’t,’ Forsberg added. “I hate it for the team because they worked all week getting a new car together after a wreck last week so hopefully its not quite that bad.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank PitStopUSA, Autism Awareness, Pacific Highway Rentals, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, and Velocity Race Gear and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
