Forsberg Second at Placerville
PETERSEN MEDIA- One week after losing a heartbreaker in lapped traffic, Andy Forsberg and his F&F Racing team were back in action at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, where Mr. Excitement rebounded with a second place finish.
“I got beat at my own game,” Forsberg said. “I led early in the race, and stayed on the bottom too long, and Sanders got by us on the high side.”
Timing in fourth fastest during time trials, Forsberg would move on to finish third in his heat race, earning a spot in the Top-Eight redraw.
For the second week in-a-row, Forsberg found himself with the one pill, and as he led the field to green aboard his Lucas Oil/Pit Stop USA/HRP No.x1 entry, Forsberg took a liking to the bottom of the speedway.
With Greg DeCaires in tow, Forsberg was flawless as he worked the bottom on the extremely slick surface, but soon he had company in the form of Justin Sanders.
With Sanders pounding the top, he was able to jump into the lead on the 15th lap, but Forsberg did not go away.
Stalking Sanders’ rear bumper, the Auburn, CA driver challenged for the top spot for a few markers after giving up the lead, but Sanders got away.
In the closing laps, Forsberg felt pressure from his Placerville Speedway rival, Andy Gregg, for the second spot, but Forsberg was having none of it, and he held strong, and picked up a second place finish aboard his Inventory Sales/A.R.T./CRV machine.
“My guys gave me a great car, and I got beat,” he said. “Sometimes it pays off to not be in the lead early in the race, and Sanders capitalized and we congratulate their team.”
