PETERSEN MEDIA- Wednesday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA, Andy Forsberg led laps early, and slipped back to fifth at one point, but was able to rebound and take the final spot on the podium with the Civil War Series.

“This slick stuff tends to give me trouble, but the guys had a pretty good car under me, I just got beat by the young guys,” Forsberg said.

With 39 cars on hand for the opening night of the 61st Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions, Forsberg kicked his night off by timing the Lucas Oil/Pit Stop USA/HRP backed No. x1 entry in fifth fastest.

Starting in the second row of his heat race, the Auburn, CA driver worked into the second spot as he chased after Steven Tiner. Finishing in the second spot, Forsberg moved into the dash, where he charged to second from sixth, and started on the front row of the feature event.

When the race went green, Forsberg was hard on the throttle as he jumped into the early lead, with Steven Tiner chasing after him.

With a trio of cautions waiving in the first 1/3 of the race, Forsberg nailed his restarts as he continued to lead, until Mason Moore made a move on him on the 11th lap to take command of the race.

Staying in the second spot, Forsberg continued to chase after Moore, but Moore continued to stretch his lead, and Forsberg then felt pressure from Matt Peterson and Rico Abreu.

Slipping back to fifth on the 23rd lap, Forsberg would rally in the closing stages, as he worked back into the third spot on the 25th lap, where he would ultimately go to finish.

“The young guys (Matt Peterson and Mason Moore) showed the old guy a thing or two tonight, and congrats to them both,” he said. “We were pretty good, but they were better. I can’t thank all of the F&F guys enough.”

F&F Racing would like to thank Lucas Oil, Pit Stop USA, HRP, CRV, Inventory Sales, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, Wilwood, Kaizer Wheels, K&N, Roseville Precision, Autism Speaks, FK Rod Ends, and PT Shocks for their support in 2014.

ON TAP: Forsberg will return to action on Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway for the regular season finale.
