Friday Podium Highlights Mitchell Faccinto’s HK Classic Weekend

PETERSEN MEDIA- Mitchell Faccinto and the Tarlton Motorsports team took part in last weekend’s Howard Kaeding Classic at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA. During the two-day extravaganza, Faccinto’s Friday night podium with highlight the weekend.

“I thought our car was really good all weekend,” Faccinto said. “Friday night I was able to drive from sixth to the lead, and on Saturday we got going pretty good after a poor qualifying result, but I made a couple of mistakes that cost us a few spots in the end.”

Kicking the Howard Kaeding Classic weekend off on Friday night at Watsonville, CA’s Ocean Speedway, Faccinto would go out line in time trials and despite the track being extremely slick he was still able to time the Tarlton and Son Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto backed No.21 in 16th fastest and inside the heat race inversion.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Faccinto’s heat win was of the utmost importance as it not only transferred him into the feature event, it also locked the Hanford, CA driver into the six-lap Dash.

Drawing the eight for the Dash draw, Faccinto would improve his feature event starting position by one row as he worked up to a sixth-place finish.

Taking the green flag for the 30-lapper from the outside of the third row, Faccinto ride the rim to the front as he set a torrid pace on the cushion. Powering into the lead on the ninth lap, Faccinto would lead until lap 19 when Dominic Scelzi took to the bottom and snuck underneath Faccinto and TK quickly followed suit.

Losing the top two positions while working the top, Faccinto was still able to hang on to a podium as he closed Friday night out with a third-place finish.

Getting the 410ci engine bolted in for Saturday’s KWS/NARC portion of the HK Classic, Faccinto would get timed in 15th fastest on this night and again found himself on the front row of his heat race.

Finishing second in heat race competition, Faccinto was firmly in the 30-lap feature event though he would be mired back in 16th to kick the race off.

A strong start to the race saw Faccinto power his way into the Top-10 within the first few laps. Racing into eighth by the race’s halfway point, Faccinto would run in eighth until the 22nd lap when a slight miscue saw him fall back to 10th. Looking to rebound from the miscue, Faccinto would hook up in a battle for position inside the Top-10 over the final few laps but he found himself on the outside when the race ended as he brought home an 11th place finish.

“I really feel like we are on the verge of going on a run here as we get that much better each night out,” Faccinto said. “Stockton this weekend should be a good weekend for our team as Drew Warner and I have a pretty good track record together at the track.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 27, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 6, Top 10’s: 15.
