PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in a four race Speedweek over the last week, Garth Kasiner stayed red hot as he picked up two feature event wins and a second place finish to earn Restricted CA Speedweek Championship honors.
The grueling week kicked Tuesday night in Dixon, CA and the Five Points, CA driver would get off to a slow start as he timed the West Hills Oil/CS9/SRP backed No. 21g entry in 22nd fastest in qualifying time trials.
With his work cut out for him, Kasiner would rebound to pick up a third place finish during his heat race and move on to the 25-lap feature event where he would line up in the seventh spot after accumulating valuable passing points.
On a slick racing surface, Kasiner did a great job of racing his way forward. Simply going where others weren’t Kasiner showed a great deal of patience as he erased all memory of a slow start by picking up a second place finish.
Traveling to Delta Speedway on Tuesday night, Kasiner would get off to a much better start as he timed the Roger Vogt’s Performance Auto & Air/Irritec P1 Drip Tape/Keizer Wheels machine in third quickest in qualifying time trials.
From the second row of his heat race, Kasiner would move forward as a second place finish would put him on the front row of the of the 25 lap feature event. Running in the second spot for the opening four laps, Kasiner would take over the race lead before being slowed by a caution.
With stoppages seemingly the only thing that could slow Kasiner on this night, the youngster would eventually find himself in victory lane as he celebrated with his first Golden Bear trophy of the week.
Taking Thursday night off to travel further south to Visalia, CA, Speedweek picked up on Friday night at Plaza Park Raceway.
Timing in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials, Kasiner would again show speed under race conditions as he picked up the heat race win and again found himself on the front row of the feature event.
Jumping out to the early lead, Kasiner was in firm control of this one from the onset. Leading every step of the way, Kasiner was flawless during restarts as he again earned another Golden Bear trophy as the Speedweek title became a reality heading into the finale on Saturday in Lemoore, CA.
Entering the final night with a 28-point cushion, Kasiner would get his night underway by timing in fastest overall in qualifying time trials.
Lining up fourth in his heat, Kasiner would pick up one spot as he finished third in his heat race and earned a spot in the final Speedweek feature event of the week.
Gridding the field from the third starting position, things would be slow to go as several attempted starts would be botched. One of the starts would see a driver climb over Kasiner’s left rear and flatten his tire and bend his axle and bring his night to an end as he was forced to spectate the feature event.
Looking like he would lose out on the Speedweek title, Kasiner’s body of work proved to be good enough as he still came out on top when points were tallied and took home a third Golden Bear trophy as he was crowned the 2017 CA Speedweek Restricted 600 Champion.
Garth Kasiner would like to thank West Hills Oil, CS9, Security Race Products, Roger Vogt’s Performance Auto & Air, Irritec P1 Drip Tape, Keizer Wheels, Factory Kahne, Kasiner Farms Inc., B&B Ag Transport LLC, Superior, Soil Supplements, Simplot, and Fresno Equipment Company for their support.
