Gio Scelzi and KCP Racing Put Together Strong 4 Race Showing with All Star Circuit of Champions

PETERSEN MEDIA- Battling with the All-Star Circuit of Champions on Thursday at the Plymouth Dirt Track, Friday at 34 Raceway, Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, and on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, Gio Scelzi and KCP Racing would have a strong second week out together highlighted by a trio of Top-5 finishes.

“I was really happy with our results in only our second weekend out together,” Gio Scelzi said. “Obliviously you want to win when start on the front row, but I think if we keep putting ourselves up front the wins will come.”

The Rayce Rudeen Foundation race was firs up for Gio and the KCP Racing team, and Scelzi would time in second fastest overall in time trials, and quickest in his time trial flight board the Logan Contractors Supply/Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 entry.

Finishing fourth in his heat race, the Fresno, CA driver would win the Dash and lead the field to green in the feature event. Leading early, Scelzi would find himself battling with Kyle Larson up front.

Looking to fend Larson off, Scelzi would slip back to second before ultimately finishing third.

Friday night the scene shifted to Burlington, IA where Scelzi would time in 12th fastest overall as the straight line time trial format was in play as dictated by car count.

Racing his way to a heat race win, Scelzi would finish eighth in the Dash and line up on the outside of the fourth row for the feature event. Able to pick up a few positions in the ‘A”, Scelzi would pocket a fifth place finish as he looked forward to Knoxville and Huset’s to close out the weekend.

At the famed ½ mile on the Marion County Fairgrounds, Scelzi kicked the night off by timing in second fastest in his heat group before finishing third in his heat.

A win in the Dash saw the youngster again lead the field to green, but he would soon have his hands full with Kyle Larson. Searching around the Knoxville Raceway, Scelzi would keep Larson at bay as long as he could but would soon slip all the way back to fourth.

Relentless in the closing laps, Scelzi would get by Brian Brown on the race’s final lap to claim the final step on the podium.

Making his first ever appearance at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night, Scelzi seemed to figure out the bullring quickly as he was fastest in his qualifying group and finished third in his heat race.

Taking the green flag form the sixth position after finishing third in the second Dash, Scelzi would keep his mount inside the Top-10. Over the course of the 35-lap feature, Scelzi would settle into the eighth position where he would go on to close out his weekend.

“Making all four Dashes with that caliber of cars is huge and is a sign that we have a lot of speed,” Scelzi added. “Me and Tyler Swank are still figuring each other out each night, and I feel like we made a lot of headway over the weekend and it has me really excited about the Front Row Challenge and the Knoxville event.”

KCP Racing would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Cox Design and Fabrication, Armor Electric Company, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
