PETERSEN MEDIA- Climbing back aboard the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21x machine for the first time since a second place run back in late July, Shane Golobic was one spot better on Saturday night at Kern County Raceway Park as he completed the season sweep at the Bakersfield, CA speed plant and pulled within 13 digits of the series point lead with just two races remaining.
“Saturday night went great,” Shane Golobic noted. “It had been a long time since we last raced together with the way the late Summer schedule was laid out, but I felt really comfortable right of bat and our night ended the best way it could.”
The Fremont, CA native opened the final stretch in the 2018 King of the West season up by timing the potent Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales backed entry in third quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Golobic would pick up a position and finish third which would tally enough points to move into the always important Dash.
Running second to Willie Croft in the Dash, Golobic would find himself on the front row of the 30-lap feature event as he chased after his fourth series win of the season, as well as his second of the year at Kern County.
With Willie Croft choosing the outside line for the start of the race, Golobic would take the green flag from the inside position and would settle into second as things came to fruition.
Chasing after Croft, the field would soon reach the back of the field within mere laps and the fight for the lead would be on in traffic. Closing in on Croft on the sixth circuit, Golboic would use a full head of steam on lap seven as he ripped the top of turns one and two and sailed around Croft who had killed some of his momentum by sliding up in front of a slower car.
Continuing to stay committed to the high, scary side of the race track, Golobic would feel pressure from Bud Kaeding as he came up on two slower cars around the race’s half way point.
Actually losing the lead to Kaeding in traffic, Golobic would not be in second long as he made a swift move back by Kaeding to take over the race lead. Back out in front, Golobic would simply check out from the rest of the field until a late caution made things interesting with just three laps to go.
Nailing his restart, Golobic would create a bit of a gap between himself and second running Willie Croft as he raced on to grab his fourth win of the season.
“The Tarlton’s always provide me with great equipment and Paul, Tyrone, and everyone that lends a hand always give me a great car,” Golobic added. “We struggled a bit in the heat and the Dash but we made some great adjustments and put this car in victory lane where it belongs. I can’t thank the entire Tarlton crew enough for all their hard work, and I am really excited to fight for this championship with two races left.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Yokut Gas, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 15, Wins: 4, Top 5’s: 14, Top 10’s: 15.
