PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting down to the final races with the King of the West Series, Shane Golobic was able to keep pace with Kyle Hirst in his quest for the series championship as he backed last week’s win up with a third place finish on Saturday night in Hanford, CA during the Cotton Classic.

“Our night was okay, and again the Tarlton’s provided me with another great car,” Shane Golobic said. “I just needed to be better in the feature event, but I can’t be too upset with another podium finish.”

During the 2018 King of the West Series’ penultimate event on Saturday night at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA, Golobic got his night started off by timing the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino backed entry in third quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of heat race no. 3, the Fremont, CA native would get the best of his younger brother, Dustin, as he raced his way to the win and secured himself a spot in the all-important Dash.

Running second in the Dash to Mitchell Faccinto, Golobic would put the Tarlton Motorsports entry on the front row of the 30-lap Cotton Classic as he sought after his fifth series win of the season as he looked to tighten the point battled up heading into the season finale that looms in just a few weeks.

Slipping back to second when the race came to life, Golobic would keep early leader, Mitchell Faccinto in his sights as the Keller Auto Speedway surface offered up a very racy surface in the feature event. Just before the halfway point, Golobic would feel pressure for his championship competitor, Kyle Hirst, and would slip back to third though still very much in the mix for the Cotton Classic win.

Continuing to fight hard through traffic, the two0time and defending Trophy Cup Champion would actually slip has far back as fifth at one point during the feature event, but he would fight hard in the closing laps to take the final spot on the podium and keep pace with second finishing Hirst as the duo look to settle the score in a couple of weeks in Stockton, CA.

“Definitely not upset with a podium, but we come to these races to win, and we were in a prime spot to do so on Saturday,” Golobic added. “This is shaping up to be an exciting season finale in a few weeks, and I am looking forward to going to work with these Tarlton Motorsports guys.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Yokut Gas, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 16, Wins: 4, Top 5’s: 15, Top 10’s: 16.
