Golobic Rebounds To Finish 7th at Howard Kaeding Classic
PETERSEN MEDIA- Though his Top-Five streak with Tarlton Motorsports came to a close on Saturday night in Watsonville, CA, Shane Golobic still showed resolve as he overcame an early tangle while running inside the Top-Three to work his way forward from the back and finish seventh in the Howard Kaeding Classic.
“It is kind of a bummer to end our streak, but we had a good car and just got caught up,” Shane Golobic said. “Paul Baines, Tyrone, and everyone that lends a hand on this car always put me in a good position and we will get right back to it Saturday night in Placerville, CA.”
Timing the Elite Landscape Construction/Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino/Tarlton and Son, Inc. backed No. 21x machine in second quickest in qualifying time trials, the Fremont, CA pilot would settle for third during heat race action.
Moving into the Dash, a fourth place finish put Golobic in the second row of the 30-lap HK Classic feature event. Following track prep prior to the feature event, Golobic would jump into third as the race got going. Settling into the final spot on the podium, Golobic would find himself checked up with a car in front of him and then spun around after contact from behind on the 10th lap.
Forced back to 22nd, the two-time and defending Trophy Cup Champion would find himself in quite the hole. Making a couple of big moves, Golobic would quickly find himself up in 16th at the race’s halfway point and continuing to move forward.
Racing his way into 15th on lap 20, Golobic would crack the Top-10 with just five to go. A couple of late stoppages would set up restarts, and Golobic would capitalize on them as he would overtake the seventh position on the 29th lap and go on to finish there.
“We kind of got into a bad spot there and had to check up and then we got plowed and that really changed the direction of our night,” Golobic added. “I have to thank Tom, Tommy, and everyone else that makes this all possible. It is a great group to work with and I look forward to getting back up front this weekend.”
