PETERSEN MEDIA- Tony Gomes returned to form on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway as he charged to a fourth-place finish after taking the green flag from the 11th starting position.
“After last week’s bummer of a night, Saturday night went smooth and we were able to move forward each time we hit the track,” Tony Gomes said. “We didn’t get into the redraw, so we started mid pack in the feature, but Cody and the guys put a strong car underneath me and we worked our way forward really well.”
With 24 cars in the pit area for the track’s penultimate points show, Gomes timed the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7C in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Modesto, CA driver was up on the wheel as he needed to pick up the heat race win to ensure a place in the nightly redraw. Getting into second, Gomes stalked Andy Forsberg for the top spot over the final circuits but had to settle for a runner up finish in heat race action.
Transferring into the feature event, Gomes had his work cut for himself as he lined up 11th and looked to mirror the charge he mounted just one week ago.
From the sixth row, Gomes was on the move early as he jumped into eighth on the race’s opening circuit. Taking over seventh on the fifth lap, Continuing to make up ground in a hurry in the early stages of the race, Gomes was into the top five on the 10th lap.
Moving into fourth on a lap nine restart, Gomes battled with the likes of Sean Becker and Gauge Garcia as they battled for position on the slick racing surface.
Continuing to run in fourth, Gomes held the spot for the remainder of the race as he brought the C&M Motorsports entry home with a fourth-place finish.
“We had a great start to the feature and got up to fourth in no time at all, but then it got tough to make up anymore ground,” Gomes said. “We had some good battles but I couldn’t make anything stick as we held down the fourth position. Cody, Bobby, and John did a great job in the pits, and I’m extremely thankful that Cody and Mandi, as well as all of our sponsors, continue to give me a great opportunity.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
