Gomes and C&M Motorsports Cap Strong Week at Placerville Speedway with Runner Up Finish
PETERSEN MEDIA- Winning back on the 4th of July at Placerville Speedway, Tony Gomes and the C&M Motorsports team were back in the thick of the action on Saturday night as Gomes battled hard with Tanner Carrick for the top spot before settling for a second-place finish.
“Saturday night was another good night for the C&M Motorsports team back up on the hill,” Tony Gomes said. ‘We missed out on qualifying for the redraw, but we charged from ninth and had a shot at the win in the end.”
With 17 cars checking in for another round of weekly points action at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Gomes timed the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7C in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials.
Needing to pick up the win in his heat to qualify for the redraw, Gomes got out to the early lead but slipped back to second as Landon Brooks rode the highline to the lead.
Hanging on to second, Gomes missed the redraw but had a solid starting position as he was set to take the green flag from the ninth starting position with 25-laps to get to the front.
On a slick surface with a big curb built up on both ends of the speedway, Gomes was a very strong car underneath him. Battling his way into the Top-Five by the race’s halfway point, Gomes powered his way into second and began to pressure Tanner Carrick with just a handful of laps remaining in the ‘A’.
With the duo each exchanging blows at each other as they brought the crowd to their feet battling for the top spot, Gomes was not quite able to make his move stick and ultimately capped his night off with a second place finish.
“I am really thankful that I am in the position to drive for Cody and Mandi and that we have a legit shot to grab a win each night we check in,” Tony Gomes said. “Cody, John, and Bobby always work their butt’s off for me, and we have a great group of partners behind us that make this all possible.”
