Gomes' Night Ends As He Gets Collected In Late Race Tangle

PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night at Placerville Speedway was shaping up to be a good night for Tony Gomes and C&M Motorsports. Running third late in the feature event, and pressuring the lead duo, Gomes’ night took a turn as he was in the wrong place at the wrong time on the 18th lap and collected with a spinning car.

“It was disappointing to have our night end the way it did,” Tony Gomes said. “We had a great car and worked our way forward from 12th and had a legit shot to grab another win, but a car in front of me got over the cushion and I had nowhere to go and got into them.”

Kicking off the final month of championship points action at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Gomes got the night underway by timing the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7C in eight fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Gomes’ third place finish put him into the 25-lap feature event, but it put him in a bit of a hole as he rolled off the starting grid from the sixth row.

On a slick surface that had a very big cushion built up on both ends of the speedway as well as plenty of grip on the bottom groove, Gomes went to work as he carved his way through the field.

Moving into 10th on the fourth lap, Gomes took advantage of a lap-10 restart as he powered his way into fifth and continued to charge. Moving into fourth on the 14th lap, Gomes made a nice move to take over third on the 16th lap and begin to pressure Justyn Cox and Andy Forsberg who were battling hard for the lead just ahead of him.

Making it a three car battle for the top spot, Gomes was officially in second on the 17th lap as the trio continued to slide back and forth all round the track.

On the 19th lap, Forsberg got his right rear over the cushion in front of Gomes and his car got sideways, Gomes had nowhere to go and made contact and caused damage to his car.

Going to the work area, there was no guaranteed time with the race past the halfway point and Gomes’ night came to an end as he was scored 18th officially.

“Were in crunch time, and I hate that our night ended like that for everyone one involved with the team including Cody, Mandi, Bobby, Josh, and John,” Gomes added. “We have a great car, and I know we will rebound and be even better this weekend.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
