Great Night Goes South For Austin Liggett in Ventura, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night in Ventura, CA, Austing Liggett came oh so close to wrapping up the 2018 USAC West Coast 360 Championship but a couple of issues in the feature event prevented that from playing out.
“We had a really good night going,” Austin Liggett said. “We got out to the lead in the feature and unfortunately we got spun out and then from the back we got caught up in another incident which ended up ending our night.”
Establishing a new track record in qualifying time trials aboard the Environmental Services/Lucas Oil/Hurst Fabrication backed No. 83 machine, Liggett continued to flex his muscles during his heat race as he charged from his fourth starting position to pick up the win.
Lining up on the pole of the 30-lap feature event, Liggett would settle into second as he worked around the tight confines of Ventura Raceway. On the eighth lap, the Tracy, CA pilot was able to work his way to the top spot as he looked to score more USAC West Coast 360 gold.
Leading at the halfway point, issues on lap 16 would see Liggett endure contact which resulted in his machine spinning to a stop as he would give up the race lead and be forced to the back of the pack where he would have 14 laps to work his way back forward.
From the back of the pack, another incident would see Liggett tangle with a fellow competitor and with this being his second caution of the race, he would be forced to the pit area and officially be scored 12th.
“We had a really strong racecar, and it is just a shame the feature had so many hiccups,’ Liggett added. “My family works so hard for me, and it is a bummer, but we will now set our focus on the Louie Vermeil Classic this weekend in Calistoga, CA.”
Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Lucas Oil, Hurst Fabrications, Infinity Shocks, 4 Alarm Promotions, Epic Fire Apparel, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.
2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-18, Wins-3, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-13
ON TAP: Liggett will return to action this Saturday and Sunday in Calistoga, CA.
