Greg DeCaires Opens 2017 Season with Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Mother Nature delayed Greg DeCaries and the Dale Miller Motorsports team’s 2017 season opener. Rather than kicking their campaign off during the scheduled weekly points opener at Placerville Speedway one week ago, the team kicked their season off with 62 other cars during the Sprint Car Challenge Tour event at the speedway on Saturday night.
“It was quite the shakedown night, but it felt good to get back in the Wesmar powered ART car,” Greg DeCaires said.
Getting his night kicked off by timing in fourth fastest in his qualifying group, DeCaires would line the Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Thompson’s Auto Center/RedHawk Casino No. 4SA sprinter up on the front row of his heat race.
In an action packed heat race, DeCaires would find himself battling with Andy Forsberg and Rico Abreu for a Dash spot, and would end up finishing third and advancing to the 40-lap feature event.
Though he missed out on a Dash berth, the Elk Grove, CA driver would find himself 16th on the starting grid on an extremely slick and slippery Placerville Speedway racing surface.
With countless laps around the ¼ mile bullring, DeCaires used his veteran savvy to work his way forward. Picking off a car a lap it seemed, DeCaires would find himself in the sixth spot and looking for more just past the race’s halfway point.
On the 26th lap however, DeCaires would admittedly get greedy as he fought for the fifth spot and it would result in him spinning his machine to a stop and bringing out the yellow flag.
Restarting from the tail of the field with 14 laps left in the race, DeCaires would pick up a few positions as he ended the night with a 16th place finish.
“Everything felt really good, and we really have a strong engine under the hood of our car this year,” DeCaires said. “We worked our way forward pretty good, and I just got a little greedy at the end. I felt really competitive in the feature, and I’m confident we will come back strong next week to kick our point season off.”
Greg DeCaires and the Dale Miller Motorsports team would like to thank Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic, Thompson’s Auto Center, RedHawk Casino, NAAKE Suspension, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, King Racing Products, Smith Titanium, Amerikote, Motion Media Wraps, Hangtown Sheet Metal & Fabrication, Vortex Wings, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Frank’s Auto Body Shop, and Wesmar Racing Engines for their support.
2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 1, Wins- 0, Top-5’s-0, Top-10’s-0
ON TAP: DeCaires and the Miller Motorsports team will again be in action at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
