PETERSEN MEDIA- Greg DeCaires and the Miller Motorsports team are getting hot as the summer months roll on, as the DeCaires picked up another podium finish on Saturday night in Placerville, CA as he finished second.
“We had a pretty good night again and just came up a few laps short,” DeCaires said.
Timing the Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Thompson’s Auto Center/RedHawk Casino backed No. 4SA machine in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, DeCaires would battle with Jimmy Trulli for the top spot before settling for second. By way of his finish and qualifying time, DeCaires would earn a spot in the Top-Eight redraw where the number two would place the defending track champion on the pole for the 25-lap A-Main event.
With Mike Benson getting out to the early lead, DeCaires would settle into the second spot as he kept the leader within striking distance for the first part of the race.
A restart on the fifth lap would see DeCaires get a run on Benson and take over the top spot. Once out front, DeCaires would give himself some breathing room until the caution flag again flew on the 13th lap.
This restart would see DeCaires and Michael Kofoid battle for the top spot with Kofoid eventually getting the better of the veteran driver. A late restart put DeCaires on Kofoid’s rear bumper with just three laps to go, but it would not be enough to get by for the win, as the Elk Grove, CA driver would settle for a second place finish.
“We went for it, but just came up short,” DeCaires said. “Dale Miller and these guys are working hard, and hopefully we can get this car back into victory lane soon.”
