“Overall really happy to run up front to open the point season up,” DeCaires said. “We are still working to see what this engine likes, and in two races the surface has been extremely different but we like our direction.”
With 20-cars in the pit area to kick off weekly points action, DeCaires would lay down a great lap in time trials that saw him end up third fastest overall.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, DeCaires would lay down more good laps, as he was able to working forward and finish second aboard the Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Thompson’s Auto Center/RedHawk Casino backed machine.
With the heat race finish, DeCaires would move into the nightly redraw where the number one pill would place him on the front row of the 25-lapper alongside Justyn Cox.
When the race came to life, Cox would get the jump, and DeCaires would find himself battling with Steven Tiner for the second spot before the first caution flew on the fourth lap.
The battle for second would intensify as the race moved along, with DeCaires trying to keep Tiner at bay. Late in the race, DeCaires would fall back to the third spot though would stick with Tiner in the race’s closing laps.
Unable to get back by, DeCaires would settle for a third place finish on this night.
“We are still getting adjusted to some changes we made in the off season, and we are confident we will hit our stride in due time,” he added.
