PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing back aboard Scott Russell’s No. 14r machine on Saturday night, Andy Gregg took on the Civil War Series Presented by Flowmaster at the Petaluma Speedway and ended up with an 11th place finish.

“We actually tied for 12th fastest, which was right in the inversion, but we lost the tie breaker, and that set us back for the rest of the night,” Gregg said “The track stayed really fast all night, so it was tough to make up a ton of ground in the early going, but my guys worked hard and gave me a car that I was able to work with.”

With 22 cars on hand on Saturday night, Gregg was officially scored 13th fastest, putting him just on the outside of the heat race inversion, and in the third row of the first heat.

Finishing in the fifth spot, Gregg found himself in the seventh row of the feature event on a surface that was still tacky, and producing very fast lap times.

With his car a big snug during the early portions of the feature event, Gregg was able to maintain as he raced just outside the Top-10.

With a trio of double file restarts sprinkled into the mix during the midway portion of the race, Gregg lost ground during them, and had actually slipped back as far as the 14th spot, as wheelies and bicycles on the heavy and rough surface caused him to lose ground.

When the race finally got into a long green flag run following a lap 12 yellow, Gregg was able to slowly pick up some lost ground, as he got past Bradley Terrell, Herman Klein, and Brett Rollag in the closing laps to get himself back up to the 11th spot when the checkered flag flew on the feature event.

“It was a wild feature,” he said. “Double file restarts didn’t work out for us, but when he got going, we were able to pick up some spots. We are excited to get out of here in once piece, and are looking forward to two nights of racing in Chico, CA this weekend.”
