Gregg Makes Two Gold Cup Feature Events

PETERSEN MEDIA: Andy Gregg was in action with both the Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster and the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars during the 61st Gold Cup Race of Champions in Chico, CA last week, and in three night’s of action, the Placerville, CA driver made two feature events, only to have a mechanical issue keep him from making all three feature’s.
“It was an okay weekend for our team,” Gregg said. “We struggled a little on Wednesday in the 360 race, and I was pleased with how we ran against the Outlaws Friday and Saturday night.”
Kicking things off on Wednesday night, Gregg timed his Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Capitol Ace Hardware/Thompson’s Auto No. 14R entry in 17th fastest after being the last car to take a time, but he just narrowly missed the heat race inversion.
Lining up fifth in his heat race, Gregg and Rico Abreu battled for the fourth and final transfer spot, but Abreu was able to sneak by Gregg late in the race, and he was bound for the night’s B Main.
Gridding the field from the third row in the night’s B Main, Gregg had a solid B Main has he worked around the slicked off speedway, looking to earn a spot into the 30-lap feature event.
Avoiding some near disasters, Gregg would finish in the fifth spot, and move into the night’s feature event, where he lined up in the 11th row, and in the 21st position.
From the back of the pack, Gregg would work around the tricky surface nicely, as he maneuvered his way up to a 13th place finish.
Back in action on Friday night with the World of Outlaws, Gregg would time his Miller Fortune/Poor’s Equipment Repair/K&N No. 53 machine in 17th fastest, again just narrowly missing the heat race inversion.
A sixth place finish in heat race action put Gregg in the LCQ, where he would finish in the fourth spot, and move into the Friday night main event.
Lining up in the ninth row for the 30-lap feature event, Gregg ran around the 15th spot much of the race until he made contact with a stalled Brad Sweet. With the contact being light, Gregg would restart, and would work back to 15th, where he would finish.
Saturday night saw Gregg time the FK Rod Ends/King Racing Products/BR Motorsports backed entry in 20th fastest before finishing in the seventh spot in his heat race.
Lining up fifth in the LCQ, Gregg worked quickly jumped into the fourth spot, and looked to be well on his way into the feature event, until a cam drive spud broke late in the race resulting in him losing power steering, and fuel pressure, and his weekend came to an end.
“I have to thank my team and all of my sponsors for getting us out here this weekend, and having some fun,” Gregg said. “I though we raced pretty well, but those couple of nights just missing the inversion hurt us. Now we will look forward to some of the big races left still out west, and see if we can’t pick up a couple of wins.”
