Gregg Very Strong In Chico and Placerville

PETERSEN MEDIA: Doing the Chico, CA and Placerville, CA double over the weekend, Andy Gregg was very strong, and was well on his way to two great finishes but mechanical woes knocked him out of the second spot on Friday night before scoring a fifth place finish at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
“We really had a great weekend, and had two very fast racecars,” Gregg said. “We had a DNF at Chico, but we were up front, and at Placerville we did pretty well on a pretty sticky track, and ran fifth.”
Aboard Scott Russell’s No. 14R machine on Saturdya night, Gregg timed in third quickest in time trials, putting him in the second row of his heat race.
On a very sticky, and fast surface, Gregg was able to score a third place finish, and earn a berth in the Top-Eight redraw.
Pulling the six pill, Gregg lined up in the third row of the feature event. When the race came to life he took over the fifth spot aboard his Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Capitol Ace Hardware/Thompson’s Auto machine.
On a track that saw cars mostly utilizing the bottom of the speedway, Gregg tried working the top in heavy traffic to pick up a few more positions, but with the bottom being so fast, he was un successful in his efforts, and took the fifth place finish.
Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway, Gregg timed his Miller Fortune machine in sixth quickest, before running second in his heat race.
Lining up on the front row alongside Sean Becker, Gregg jumped into the second spot when the race went green as he chased after Becker’s machine.
With the lead duo breaking away from the field, and checking out, Gregg kept Becker within striking distance, until problems in his front end, forced him to come to a stop, and his night ended.
“Friday night was a bummer, because we had a great car, and I think we could have had a great race with Sean Becker, but it was something out of our control,” he explained. “Saturday night the track was really fast all night, and we put ourselves in a great spot, and we capitalized and finished in the Top Five.”
