PETERSEN MEDIA- Richard Vander Weerd and his Vander Weerd Racing team had another weekend of both winged and non-winged action. Though Vander Weerd would have issues on Friday night with his winged car, he would bounce back on Saturday and finish second with the USAC/CRA Series at the Perris Auto Speedway.

“We had really good speed with both cars, but unfortunately we had some issues on Friday night, and on Saturday we had to play catch up after early contact in the feature event,” Richard Vander Weerd said.

Hitting the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA on Friday night, Vander Weerd would get off to a slow start as he timed his Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 10 machine in 18th fastest.

Staring near the back of his heat race, Vander Weerd got off to a great start as he worked his way forward into the fourth spot, until having issues with his steering gear and pulling off the speedway.

Lining up at the tail end of the feature event, the Visalia, CA driver was able to make some good laps on the racy Keller Auto Speedway surface, as he worked his way inside the Top-10.

Getting into the seventh spot, Vander Weerd’s machine began to get too hot for his liking, so he opted to make a safe decision and pull off the speedway and bring his night to an early end.

Loading up his non-wing entry and heading to the Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday night, Vander Weerd got off to a great start as he timed in fourth quickest during time trials and went on to win the Dash.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, Vander Weerd had his elbows up as he surged forward and picked up the win, as he took his qualifying time into the feature event.

Lining up fourth in the feature, Vander Weerd would have a huge run as the race went green but he would make contact with another competitor and fall back to the eighth spot.

Settling down, Vander Weerd would get going in the right direction as he was able to work his back up to the second spot. The closing laps of the race saw Vander Weerd make a serious run for the race lead, but as he made contact with the wall on two consecutive laps, he would play it safe and nurse his car to the finish line with a bent wheel as he was able to hang on to the second spot.

“Saturday I made a mistake early, but the guys gave me a good enough car to work my way back up, and we were a threat to win the race,” Vander Weerd added. “I really thank everyone that continues to give me a strong car weekly.”

Richard and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-33, Wins-6, Top 5’s-16, Top 10’s-20.
