Gremlins Hound Statler in Tulare, CA
PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to racing after taking last week off, Jason Statler and his DF Rios Motorsports team headed south to the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA where gremlins hounded them all night, with Statler’s night coming to a close just eight laps into the feature event.
“It was just a tough night all around,” Statler said. “Aside from our heat race, we seemed to chase something every time we hit the track.”
Hitting the high-banked speedway for the Chris and Brian Faria Memorial on Saturday night, Statler had an issue under the hood of his Amerikote/Riley Collins Auto Body/SCI backed No. 00 machine, that resulted in him timing in 14th quickest.
Lining up in the third row of his heat race, Statler would battle with young Mitchell Faccinto most of the race, getting the better of him as he would finish fifth in heat race action, and lining him up 14th in the 30-lap feature event.
On an unusually rough Thunderbowl Raceway surface, Statler would bounce threw hole in turn one on the start of the race, breaking something in the right-rear suspension, until the right rear stop broke on the eighth lap, bringing his night to an early end.
“You hate to have nights like that, but it is part of the sport,” Statler said. “We were rolling along pretty good headed into Tulare, and hopefully we can put this behind us, and get going good this weekend.”
