Gualda 17th in Points At First Trophy Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in his first Trophy Cup, Tony Gualda came away pleased after making the Saturday night feature event, and finishing 17th in event points with C&M Motorsports.

“We came into the weekend of making the feature on Saturday night, so locking into out of our heat race and running up front was pretty amazing,” Tony Gualda said. “Unfortunately we tried to avoid a wreck and it resulted in some contact turning us and we had to go to the back and came back to finish 15th, but all in all really happy with the week of racing.”

Thursday night didn’t quite go how Gualda and the C&M Motorsports team had hoped but they were able to learn from it and better themselves for Friday night’s qualifying night.

Friday night saw Gualda time the Moorefield Construction/PitStopUSA/Autism Awareness backed No.7C machine in 11th quickest in his qualifying which was good enough to put him in the second row of his heat race.

Working his way to a third place finish, Gualda would accumulate enough points to transfer into the feature event, where he would find himself in the 14th starting position on a track that was hooked up and rough.

Not shying away from anything on this night, Gualda put the Pacific Highway Rentals/Swartz Diesel/51 Fifty Energy Drink backed machine on the ragged edge as he worked his way forward and into the Top-10.

Getting up to ninth, cars would get together in front of him and he would make contact with the wall as he swerved to go around them and it would cause some minor suspension damage to his entry.

Still fighting hard in the feature, Gualda would hang on to finish 12th on this night which put him 18th in points heading into Saturday night’s Trophy Cup finale.

Lining up sixth in his Saturday night heat race on an extremely fast racing surface, Gualda would pick up a couple of crucial positions as he finished fourth in his heat. When all heat races were complete and points were tallied up, the Hollister, CA driver found himself 17th in points and in the second row of the 50-lap feature event.

When the much anticipated feature event came to life, Gualda settled into fifth as he battled with Michael Kofoid, Andy Gregg, and Chase Johnson.

Able to clear his competitors, Guada was then able to get by Tim Crawley and take over the third spot in the running order as he chased after Bud Kaeding, and Ryan Bernal who raced hard in front of him.

On lap 35, the two leaders would get together and as Gualda tried to avoid getting in on it, contact would spin him around and he would bring out the yellow flag. Going back to 20th, Gualda would rebound to finish 15th in the race and 17th in overall points.

“I can’t thank Cody and Mandi enough for giving me such a great opportunity all year long, and giving me an extremely competitive car all weekend at Trophy Cup,” Gualda said. “The last few days it’s been very cool getting messages and seeing tweets on people commending us on how we ran, so it’s definitely a good feeling heading into Stockton.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank PitStopUSA, Autism Awareness, Pacific Highway Rentals, Moorefield Construction, Inc., PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, 51 Fifty Energy Drink, Alturas Tires, and Velocity Race Gear and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
