Gualda Continues To Close In on First Win at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Tony Gualda continues to flirt with his first win at Placerville Speedway. Running second for much of the feature on Wednesday night, the Hollister, CA driver would have a slight mishap in traffic that ultimately saw him finish fourth on the Fourth.

“Man, we are so close,” Tony Gualda said. “Cody, Mandi, and all of the guys who lend a hand continue to give me a great car, and I want to badly to reward them all with a win. We were close on Wednesday night and I am anxious to get back up there on Saturday.”

Spending his Independence Day at the helm of the potent C&M Motorsports No. 7C machine at Placerville Speedway, Gualda would open his night up by timing the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA entry in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials before finishing fourth in his heat race.

Earning a spot in the redraw, Gualda’s night of four’s would continue as the four pill put him in the second row for the Fourth of July feature event. On a racy Placerville Speedway surface, Gualda would get off to a great start as he would quickly get around Steven Tiner and take over the second position.

Chasing after Tanner Thorson, Gualda would be able to reel the leader in as they got into traffic. Pinned behind a slower car just past the race’s halfway point, Gualda would see Thorson break away from him. Making a move to get by the slower car, contact from behind would break Gualda’s momentum on the 16th lap and he would fall back to fourth where he would take the checkered flag.

Though dejected from the way the race ended, Gualda and the C&M Motorsports team would meet back up with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night as the series embarked on Stockton Dirt Track for the Tribute to LeRoy Van Connett.

Timing in second quickest in his time trials group, Gualda would line up third in his heat race. When the green light flashed on, Gualda would get right in the first set of turns and he would fall back to fourth where he would finish.

Transferring directly into the feature event, the Hollister, CA product would have his work cut out for himself as he lined up in the 15th starting position on a surface that was completely reworked prior to the feature event.

As the track started to come in, Gualda would start to gain some ground, as he was able to get into 12th.   On the fifth lap, a rock would get into the driver’s compartment and would cause Gualda’s helmet shield to come dislodged from his helmet and his night would come to an early end.

“It was bizzare,” Gualda said of his helmet issue. “It was unfortunate because I think we had another great car and I was looking forward to seeing what we could do on the big track. Again, huge thanks to Cody, Mandi, and all of the guys for working so hard for me.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: Gualda and C&M Motorsports return to racing action on Saturday night in Placerville, CA.
