Gualda Garners Second Place Finish at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Ging toe to toe with Andy Forsberg for the feature event win on Saturday night, Tony Gualda would come up just short as he picked up a second place finish on what was Fan Appreciation Night at Placerville Speedway.
“Man, that was a lot of fun,” Tony Gualda said with a smile. “Even though we came up short and ran second, I really feel like I learned a ton in what was a tricky race to find a rhythm.”
Gualda got his night off to a great start as he timed the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA backed No.7c in fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Gualda would get in line behind Sean Becker as he was able to driver his way up to second. Hounding the veteran driver, Gualda would hang on to a second place finish which would put him in the redraw based on his qualifying effort.
Pulling the five pill, the Hollister, CA native would line the potent C&M Motorsports entry up in the third row for the 25-lap feature event on a very racy ¼ mile bullring that was offered up on this night.
During an early three-lap green flag run, Gualda was able to make the top work to his liking as he quickly jumped into third before a yellow bunched the field back up.
Battling hard with Justyn Cox for second when the action resumed, a brief stoppage would impede his progress until he was able to take over the second position on the sixth lap.
A stoppage on the seventh lap bunched the field back up and this restart saw Gualda take the green flag alongside race leader, Andy Forsberg. Chasing after the leader when the green flag was back out, traffic would finally come into play on the 12th lap and it allowed Gualda to close in.
Making a big move on the 13th lap, Gualda would put the C&M Motorsports entry up front just before a lap 14 caution was needed. The following restart would see Gualda slip back to second before he would again find himself on the front row of a double file restart.
When the action resumed, Gualda would continue to run in second as he chased down the race leader. With stoppages keeping the lead pack out of traffic in the closing laps, Gualda would cap his night off with a strong second place finish.
“Mark and Cody really gave me a great car all night long,” Gualda added. “From time trials through the feature we were extremely fast and it was a fun car to drive. We were able to get the lead late once we got into traffic, but I made a bad decision on a restart that cost us a shot at the win. Like I said, I had a ton of fun and really learned some things battling with Andy there and I think we will get one of these wins very soon.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
ON TAP: Gualda and C&M Motorsports will turn their attention to the Sprint Car Challenge Tour this weekend as they are set to head to Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA on Saturday night.
