PETERSEN MEDIA- Continuing to flirt with his first career winged 360ci win, Tony Gualda would again come close to breaking through Saturday night before ultimately coming home with a sixth place finish.

“Cody and his guys did a great job again, and gave me an awesome racecar,” Tony Gualda said. “We were right in the mix, led a lap battled with the leaders and should have finished on the podium at least but I made a mistake late and we ended up sixth.”

Timing the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA backed no. 7c machine in second fastest in qualifying time trials, Tony Gualda would make a statement early as he surged from fourth to win his heat race.

Moving into the redraw, the Hollister, CA driver would pull the four pill which put him in the second row to start the 25-lap feature event. When the race went green, Gualda would find himself in third as he chased after the likes of Tanner Carrick and Cody Lamar and battled with Justyn Cox for position.

Making an early bid for the lead, Gualda would see his efforts negated by a cross over move as he would continue to hold court in third as the action was close knit on Saturday night.

Jumping to the lead in traffic on lap 16, Gualda’s pass would be negated, as the caution flag would fly putting him back in second. When the action resumed, Gualda would go back to work on Tanner Carrick before Carrick would spin on the cushion and give Gualda the top spot.

Out front, Gualda would dip low on the 18th lap and it would not work out for him as it would leave the top open and he would fall back to second. Looking to get the top spot back, Gualda would continue to hound new leader Andy Forsberg until he would trip up on the cushion and give the second position to Shane Hopkins.

Now back in third, Gualda would look to get back into second on the final lap of the race but his move would not work out how he had planned and contact would ensue. With a bit of damage to his car, Gualda would do all he could to hang on and race back to the checkered flag with a sixth place finish.

“We are close to that win, and in some cases we should already have it, but we will keep plugging away,” Gualda added. “I feel pretty lucky to drive this C&M Motorsports car and again have to thank Cody and Mandi for sticking with me and all of their partners for continuing to support us.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: Gualda and C&M Motorsports will be idle this weekend before returning to action on August 4th back at Placerville Speedway.
