PETERSEN MEDIA- Breaking through and winning his first winged 360ci feature event back in February, Tony Gualda has been driving with a ton of confidence early in 2019 and that was on full display Saturday night as he picked up a second place finish at Placerville Speedway.

“I say it time and time again, but Cody and MF work so hard and always give me an awesome car,” Tony Gualda said. “We had a great shot on Saturday night, and had a great battle with Justyn Cox there towards the end of the race he was just able to beat us to the flag stand.”

For the second week in a row, Gualda was able to top the charts during time trials at Placerville Speedway as he earned quick time honors in time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race on a track that offered a little bit of everything after more local weather through the week, Gualda got his elbows up and carved his way forward to pick up the win.

Moving into the redraw, Gualda would find himself with the four pill, which placed him in the second row for the first 25-lap feature event of the 2019 weekly season at Placerville Speedway.

Jumping into third when the race came to life, Gualda would battle with the likes of Andy Forsberg and Sean Becker as the leaders quickly found themselves in heavy traffic.

Getting a breather on the 14th lap due to a stoppage, the restart saw the Hollister, CA driver work his way into second aboard the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA entry as he began to chase after Justyn Cox.

Giving Cox all he could handle, Gualda would pull up alongside the leader a few times but just could not make the pass.

A lap 24 red flag would put the field in single file formation for one final restart and it would give Gualda one final chance to grab the win in dramatic fashion.

Cox would catch a rut in four coming to green, but as he bobbled it would force Gualda to check up ever so slightly that he was not able to capitalize. Hanging with Cox, Gualda would make it interesting coming to the line, but he would end up second by a margin of .110 seconds.

“It was a really fun race, and I have to thank Cody and Mandi for continuing to provide me with great equipment to drive,” Gualda said. “Fun to battle with a good friend like that, and hopefully we can keep rolling up front.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: Gualda and C&M Motorsports will spend this Friday and Saturday night in Stockton, CA taking part in the 2nd Annual Asparagus Cup.

2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-3, Wins-1, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-3.
