PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting two more races in before dropping the curtain on 2018, Tony Gualda and C&M Motorsports would pick up a second place finish on Friday night before a 12th place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night during a two-day show at Stockton Dirt Track.
“Friday night we were really sporty, and made some things happen despite it being narrow, and on Saturday I thought we were pretty good as well, it was just really tough being back in dirty air,” Tony Gualda said.
Friday night kicked the final weekend of the season off for Gualda and company and the Hollister, CA driver opened things up by timing the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA backed No. 7c machine in 16th quickest in time trials which would be good enough to make the heat race inversion.
Picking up the win in his heat, Gualda moved into the Dash where his fifth place finish put him in the third row to start the 30-lap feature event. With the track a tick on the narrow side, Gualda was able to work his way forward and soon find himself in third.
Moving into second with less than 10-laps to go, Gualda would begin to reel in race leader, Jason Solwold. Working on Solwold, a late caution would slow Gualda’s bid for the lead down. Despite giving it a valiant effort on the restart, Gualda would take the Friday night checkered flag in the second position.
Saturday night brought the final night of action for the year as Gualda took on the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. Timing in sixth quickest in his qualifying group, Gualda would advance from sixth to finish fifth in his heat race and transfer directly into the feature event.
Lining up in the ninth row, Gualda just couldn’t seem to get in a rhythm with all the stoppages and mount a big charge through the field. Staying patient while mired in traffic, the Hollister, CA youngster would manage to still work his way near the Top-10 as he closed his year out with a 12th place finish.
“I am extremely thankful for the opportunity Cody and Mandi gave me for the second year in a row,” Gualda said. “It was a year that I feel like I got better as a driver and learned a ton. Thanks to all the partners of the team, and thanks to all the people that help us week in and week out.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
