GW Racing Scores 6th and 12th Place Finishes with Marcus Thomas and Jacob Pacheco

(PETERSEN MEDIA)- Saturday night in Merced, CA the 2018 season came to life for GW Racing as Marcus Thomas and Jacob Pacheco both strapped up in team cars. On a tricky night of racing, Thomas would finish sixth while Pacheco would bounce back from an opening lap incident to finish 12th.
Thomas kicked his night off by timing the Speedway Motors backed No. 95 machine in 10th quickest in qualifying time trials. By way of his qualifying effort, the Texan would line up on the pole of his heat race.
Getting a great start, Thomas would leave the field in his wake as he picked up the win and moved into the feature event. The eight-car inversion would be unkind to Thomas as it put him in the ninth starting position for the feature event on the slick Merced Speedway surface.
From the fifth row, Thomas quickly went to the bottom of the speedway where there was a little moisture and was able to pick up a couple of positions.
Doing what he could on the surface, Thomas would take the checkered flag with a sixth place finish.
“Things went really well with Tim and the GWR team,” Thomas said. “After running with him during his first race last year, things went a little more smooth and his crew guys did a great job. It was a lot of fun getting out there and running and doing what we could in the feature.”
Piloting the GW Racing No. 12 entry, Jacob Pacheco kicked his night off by timing in 13th quickest on the slicked off surface. Lining up third in his heat race, Pacheco would lose the handle on the third lap but would keep it under power and race on. Unable to make up any ground, Pacheco would finish in the sixth position.
With the GWR team going to work before the feature event and getting Pacheco’s car tightened up, he would take the green flag from the 14th starting position. An opening lap incident would see a fellow competitor get upside down and unfortunately Pacheco would get in on the action.
Enduring some damage, Pachecho would make a quick trip to the work area before tagging the field from the tail end. Making the call with a damaged wing, Pachecho would do a nice job of managing despite the conditions as he was able to lay down some nice laps and finish 12th.
“It was a successful night for us, I thought,” Pacheco said. “We were able to essentially bring the car back in one piece and I was able to make a ton of laps. I have to thank Tim and the GWR guys for the opportunity to race, and I also have to thank my wife and kids for supporting me and my passion for racing.”
2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-2, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-1
ON TAP: Jacob Pacheco will return to action in the GWR 12 entry on Saturday night in Hanford, CA.
