(PETERSEN MEDIA)- Saturday night in Bakersfield, CA, blood, sweat, and tears paid for GW Racing as Marcus Thomas was able to pick up the first ever victory for the team while Rob Solomon finished 12th in his first race of the season during ‘Second Star to the Right Night’.

“I cannot express how happy I am for Tim Williams and GWR giving me the opportunity to drive this car,” Marcus Thomas said. “To finally get this team a win feels great.”

Saturday night in Bakersfield, CA Thomas would kick the night off by timing the Speedway Motors/CS9/System 1 backed No. 95 machine in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Missing the set up just a bit in time trials, Thomas would hang on to a fourth place finish which would ultimately put him on the pole for the feature event. Making some adjustments prior to the ‘A’, Thomas would take care of business when the race went green.

Leading the way from green to checkered, Thomas would part the potent GWR entry in victory lane for the first time in the teams existence.

“I am looking forward to already getting back out to the track and building off this momentum for our next races “Thomas added. “Huge thanks to everyone who makes this possible.”

Also competing out of the GWR stable on Saturday night was Rob Solomon who made his first start of the 2018 season.

Timing his machine in ninth fastest in qualifying time trials, Solomon would line up in the third row of his heat race. Falling back to sixth when the action pick up, Solomon would focus on hitting his marks as he went to school from his other competitors.

Having a little luck, Solomon would capitalize on the leader having trouble late in the race and he would end up finishing fifth and transferring directly to the feature event.

Gridding the field from the ninth starting position, Solomon would pick off a couple of cars early in the feature as he found himself up in seventh. As the race moved a long Solomon admitted to making a couple of rookie mistakes as he would lose a few spots.

Falling back, Solomon would end his first race of the season in the 12th position.

“All in all I felt pretty good in the car, and I learned a ton,” Solomon said. “I had a blast, and can’t wait to do it all again. I have to thank Tim Williams, GWR, CS9, Rick Bray, and Steven Tiner they have done for me so far to get me to this point.”

“I am extremely happy with the way we rounded at the night Saturday in Bakersfield, CA,” GWR Owner, Tim Williams said. “Of course everybody wants to win; that’s why we all show up but being a big supporter or this race and being able to pick up a win and put on a show with Marcus made it that much more special. Rob in the 95x really impressed me too. Running a sprint car only a couple of times he showed a lot of consistency and I can’t wait to get him strapped in again in Tulare this week to see what we can do.”

GWR would like to thank Speedway Motors, CS9, System1, F&J Schott Trucking, Hoosier, Simpson, ButlerBuilt, Capitol Renegade, David Williams Welding, Petersen Media, Fagundes Auto Body, Blanchard Dozing, and Willwood Brakes for their support.
