Hard Fought Sprint Car Challenge Tour Opener for Justyn Cox

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting his Saturday night off to a tough start in Placerville, CA, Justyn Cox would dig out of an early hole to make the feature event before his night came to an early end.

“We didn’t time in very well and that really hurts you with so many quality cars,” Justyn Cox said. “We went to work and raced our way into the feature but unfortunately we had some issues that forced us out of the race a little early.”

Timing in ninth quickest him his qualifying group, the Clarksburg, CA driver would line the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c up in fifth row of his heat race.

Finishing seventh in the heat, Cox would move into the semi where he lined up in the sixth starting position for the 15-lap race. Needing to finish inside of the top-four to advance to the feature event, Cox would do just that as his fourth place finish put him 24th on the starting grid for the 35-lap ‘A’ Main.

With the bottom groove extremely quick on this night, most of the field would jockey for position down there making passing tough at times. Opting to try and make something happen, Cox would attack the big curb that had build up in both sets of corners and looked to be on to something.

Getting up near the Top-15, Cox would spin to avoid a stalled car and would develop some suspension issues. Hoping to make do with a little bit of damage, the handling on the Cox Family Racing No. 31c would deteriorate lap after lap, and Cox would soon find himself wrestling his machine around the ¼ mile.

On the 20th lap, Cox finally thought better of it and took his machine back to the trailer and called it a night.

“I was really trying to make something happen and it seemed to be okay at first, but the top started to get too far around,” Cox said. “Unfortunately we endured a little damage to a shock and it made the car worse and worse and I finally had to call it a night. I hate it for my guys that our season has started out like this, but we do have a really good car now we just need some things to fall our way.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
