PETERSEN MEDIA- Climbing aboard her Harli White Racing midget on Saturday night, Harli White and her team headed to the Lawton Speedway to take on the POWRi West series.
“We had an awesome car, and we definitely had the car to beat,” Harli White said.
With pill draw format in place, the Lindsay, OK driver would line up in the third row of her heat race and wasted no time moving to the front, as he took over the second spot on the second lap. Looking for more, White would grab the lead with just two laps to go and earn an impressive heat race win.
After points were tabulated from the other heat races, White was the high point earner on this night, and earned the right to lead the field to green for the 25-lap feature event.
When the green flag dropped on the event, it was all White out front as she quickly opened up a sizeable lead. A couple of early stoppages would not phase White on this night, as she was very strong on restarts and pulled out to a large lead on numerous occasions, as she was poised to pick up her first win of the season.
A lap 20 caution would bunch the field up one final time, and just like she had done all night, White would jump out to another large lead as she looked well on her way to the victory. With just two laps to go in the race, White would hook a rut that developed in turns one and two and her car would get out of shape. Enduring a flat left rear tire from the incident, she would limp her way to a disappointing seventh place finish.
“I was absolutely sick to my stomach after I heard how big of a lead I had all night,” White said. “I really have to thank everyone on my team for giving me such a great racecar. We were the car to beat, but unfortunately a mistake cost us.”
