Heartbreak For Allard at Dirt Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night at the Skagit Speedway, Jonathan Allard seemed to have the car to beat at the Dirt Cup, but contact with a lapped car ultimately caused damage to his Tri-C Manufacturing/K&N/Redline Oil backed entry, knocking him out of contention.
“We had a really fast racecar all weekend, and I hate the way that it ended for all of my guys, and Clyde and Marion Lamar,” Allard said. “We had the car to beat, and circumstances took us out.”
Kicking off his weekend on Thursday night, Allard timed the ButlerBuilt/Platinum Powder Coating/King Racing products entry in fifth fastest, putting him in the second row of his heat race.
Finishing in the fourth spot in heat race action, the Chico, CA driver lined up 13th in the preliminary night feature event, as the field was inverted off of event points.
Showing why he has won four Dirt Cups, Allard was stellar as he surged his way to the front, picking up very valuable points.
Racing with Kyle Hirst late in the feature event, Allard would score a fifth place finish, and sat in the fourth spot in Dirt Cup points.
Friday’s event was ultimately rained out after trying to run it on Saturday morning, and being fourth in points, Allard was locked into the A Scramble, setting the first three rows of the 40-lap main event.
The start of the A Scramble showed just how strong Allard was, as he split the first and second place running cars heading into the first corner of the race, and motored away to the victory, earning the right to start the feature event on the pole.
When the green flag waived, Allard was hard on the throttle and continued to show serious speed, as he worked out to a strong lead in the first five laps, before the caution flag flew.
The caution would fly in consecutive laps, and on each restart, Allard was able to keep his lead, and show the way.
When the race finally had a decent green flag run, Allard was able to again build his lead up, but as he got into lapped traffic, second running Brock Lemley was able to close up, but Allard maintained the top spot.
On the 14th lap, a car that Allard was trying to put down a lap made contact with Allard, and somehow Allard was able to keep his machine under power, as the yellow flew as the other machine came to a stop.
Still maintaining the top spot, Allard was able to get all he could out of his machine, until the red flag flew on the 20th lap.
Under the red, officials ‘opened’ it up, and allowed crews to make adjustments to their cars, and Allard’s right-rear was visibly flat from the lap 14 contact.
Restarting, Allard tried to make it work, but came to a stop a lap later, and was forced to the tail end of the field, only to come to a stop three laps later with more issues on the right side of his car from the contact.
“It was heart breaking,” he said. “We had a really good racecar, and it would have been huge for our team. We have been getting a ton better as of late, and that would have been huge, but we had a great racecar, great speed, and we really have no reason to hang our heads.”
Allard would like to thank Tri-C Manufacturing, K&N, ButlerBuilt, Platinum Powder Coating, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Red Line Oil, KSE Racing Products, Weld Wheels, NGK Spark Plugs, FK Rod Ends, Hunt Magnetos, Longacre Products, Ti64, A.R.T.
