PETERSEN MEDIA- Andy Forsberg looked to be well on his way to his third career Mark Forni Classic win on Saturday night, but a spinning car in front of him derailed that plan as contact caused rear-end damage to Forsberg’s machine, and his night was over.
“The way this season has been going, nothing really surprises me anymore,” a disappointed Forsberg said. “I hate it for my guys. We had a great car, a nice lead, and looked to be in a good position to pick up our second Civil War win of the season.”
Forsberg flexed his muscle early in the program, as he timed the Lucas Oil/Pit Stop USA/HRP No. x1 machine in second fastest during qualifying time trials with 34 cars on hand.
Heat race action saw Forsberg take advantage of the front row being called for a false start, and with his front row starting position, he was able to get the jump and pick up the heat win, and move into the night’s dash.
With his good luck charm with him during the dash draw, Forsberg found himself with the one pill, putting the Inventory Sales/CRV/A.R.T. backed machine on the front row of the six-lap dash.
Picking up the dash win in convincing fashion, Forsberg led the field to green for the 30-lap feature event, only to see the yellow fly immediately after the race got underway.
On the complete restart, Forsberg got a great jump as he quickly motored away from the field leaving Greg DeCaires in his wake.
With stoppages on lap six and lap eight, Forsberg continued to nail his restarts, and with the race getting into a long green flag run, the leaders began to get into traffic on the 12th lap.
On the 13th lap disaster struck as a spinning car in turn four, caused Forsberg to take evasive action, and as he dipped low, contact was made to his right-rear causing severe damage, and ending his night.
“That was the only time all race that the leaders got into traffic, and unfortunately we got bit,” he added. “My guys have endured quite the year, and I have to thank them for continuing to stick with me, and work hard.”
F&F Racing would like to thank Lucas Oil, Pit Stop USA, HRP, CRV, Inventory Sales, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, Wilwood, Kaizer Wheels, K&N, Roseville Precision, Autism Speaks, FK Rod Ends, and PT Shocks for their support in 2014.
ON TAP: Forsberg will return to action on Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway where he will look to put a tough night behind him and find victory lane again.
