Heat Race Miscue Cuts Ashe’s Gold Cup Short; Hopeful to Return to Nor-Cal Posse Shootout
PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to racing after a bit of an extended break, Lucas Ashe took to Silver Dollar Speedway on Wednesday night to battle the Civil War Series in the series’ final event of the season.
“Wednesday night didn’t really go as planned,” Ashe said. “I made a mistake in the heat race and it ended our night.”
With 44 cars checked into the pit area on Wednesday night, Ashe timed the SALCO Inc./STL Tile/Crown Motors No. 33 mount in 35th quick as he shook some rust off.
Moving into heat race action, the Cottonwood, CA driver would grid the field from the ninth starting position. When the race came to life, Ashe would make nice laps on the slick racing surface.
Working through turns three and four, Ashe would trip over the cushion that had begun to build up and it resulted in his machine cartwheeling a few times and rest in the turn four catch fence.
Able to climb from the wreckage with no injury, the same could not be said for his car as his night came to an end.
“I hate it for the guys,” Ashe said. “We hadn’t ran in a while and I was hoping to come out and have a good night. Unfortunately our night ended way to early. I am hoping we can work it out and return to action in two weeks at Placerville Speedway. It is shaping up to be a cool event and I am hoping to be a part of it.”
