PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the seat of the Roth Motorsports No. 83jr for the first time since the Mark Forni Classic in early August, Kyle Hirst would bounce back from an early spin to finish 11th during the 55th Annual Johnny Key Classic.

“We were a little too free in the first segment, and I just got into the cushion a little to hot and ended up spinning out right before the break,” Hirst said. “The guys made some good adjustments, but when it took rubber, passing went away and we just got in line.”

Timing the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle No. 83jr machine in 15th fastest, putting him in the second row of his heat race. A very slick track with a thick cushion built up during heat race action saw the Chico, CA get off to a very good start as he was able to pick up the win, and move into the night’s 50-lap A-Main event.

Lining up in the eighth row of the feature event, Hirst would work around the slick ¼ mile bullring but could not seem to get going forward. Working on the thick cushion that had built up around the speedway, Hirst would get on it too hard on the 23rd lap and would eventually bring his machine to a stop on the bottom of turn two.

With the red flying on the 25th lap for the scheduled intermission, Hirst and company would go to work on the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle entry, trying to get it better for the final 25-laps.

Like the first segment, the first nine laps of the second segment would go caution free, and Hirst was able to work forward from the back of the pack to get back into the top-15.

Able to get a spot on the restart, rubber would continue to go down on track and passing would slowly dry up. Getting into the 11th spot, Hirst would battle with Carson Macedo late for the final spot in the Top-10, but would take the checkered flag with an 11th place finish.

“It was not the result that any of us wanted, but I am really proud of my guys for how hard they worked all night, and for making some good changes during the break,” Hirst added. “I also have to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth for all they do for this team. We have a big week coming up, and I would love to grab them some victories during Gold Cup week.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle,  Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, KW Suspension, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2015.
