Hirst Records Second and Third Place Finishes With King of the West Series

PETERSEN MEDIA- Kyle Hirst and his Tarlton Motorsports team had another strong weekend of racing as Hirst was able to pick up finishes of second and third place as he reclaimed sole possession of the series point lead.
“We were pretty good on Friday night, and I had some confidence heading to that race since these guys are so good at Ocean Speedway week in and week out, and Saturday night we were fast again at Calistoga but something didn’t seem right under the hood.”
Timing the Roth Motorsports/Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son Inc. No. 21x machine in third fastest in qualifying time trials on Friday night, the Paradise, CA pilot would go on to finish second in his heat race and move into the Dash.
Finishing in the third spot of the six-lap shootout, Hirst gridded the field from the second row aboard the Executive Auto Sales/Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino/Pabco Gypsum machine for the 30-lap feature event. When the green flag flew on the race, KH jumped into the second spot as he began stalking his brother-in-law, Willie Croft.
While running in the second spot, Hirst would fall back to third as Shane Golobic had a run going on the bottom and took the spot just prior to the race’s halfway point. Continuing to stay in the mix, Hirst would move back into the second spot as the caution flew with seven laps remaining. The final green flag run saw Hirst challenge Golobic for the top spot, but would end up with a second place finish in the Pombo/Sargent Classic.
Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, CA was the scene on Saturday night, and Hirst came out swinging as he set the standard in qualifying time trials. Advancing from fourth to second in his heat race, Hirst would go on to win the Dash and earn the right to start on the pole for the feature event.
Slipping into the second spot when the race went green, Hirst found himself in hot pursuit of Bud Kaeding, but would feel something amiss under the hood of his machine. Still able to keep pace at times, Hirst would slip back to the third spot, as Cory Eliason got by him.
With his issues seeming to get worse as the laps clicked on, Hirst was able to stay afloat in the third spot, but the lead duo was able to get away from him as he closed the weekend out with his second podium finish.
“I really have to thank the Tarlton Motorsports guys for their hard work,” Hirst said. “I think we had something for them in Calistoga but something got weird in the feature. We are really strong now, and I think we will pick up some more wins for sure as the Summer rolls on.”
Kyle Hirst and the Tarlton Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Motorsports, Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, Corporate America Investments, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2016 season.
