PETERSEN MEDIA- After sweeping last weekend’s Civil War Series/King of the West Series double-header weekend, Kyle Hirst stayed hot in Tulare, CA as he swept the two-day Peter Murphy Classic event with the King of the West Series and padded his point lead in the process.
“This race just means so much to so many, and win finally win it aboard the Peter Murphy Tribute car is awesome,” Kyle Hirst said. “We had Jack Ventura riding with us all weekend, and I am thrilled for this entire team to sweep the weekend.”
Friday night’s program would be a full points program for the King of the West Series, and Hirst showed his hand early, as would earn quick time honors aboard the Roth Motorsports/Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc. No. 1NZ machine.
Moving into his heat race, the Paradise, CA driver would work his way to the second spot, which would be good enough to earn him a spot in the pole shuffle. Pulling the six in the redraw, Hirst would have his work cut out for him in the match race but would be up for the challenge as he defeated DJ Netto, Bobby McMahan, Shane Golobic, before being defeated by Bud Kaeding, which would put him in the second row for the feature event.
A tricky Thunderbwol Raceway on Friday night would see much of the field work the low to middle part of the speedway. That was everyone but Hirst. Taking a liking to the cushion, Hirst would get into the race lead and simply check out as he pounded the fence lap after lap.
A late caution would bunch the field back up, but Hirst would get on the hammer, and race his way to the Peter Murphy Classic Preliminary night win.
Back in action on Saturday night, Hirst and the Tarlton Motorsports team would have much of the night off until the Pole Shuffle rolled out. Coming up just short to Jason Meyers in a hair-raising battle, Hirst would take the green flag for the feature event from the second starting position.
When the 30-lap feature came to life, Hirst would find himself back in the third spot during the early goings of the feature event as he battled with Bud Kaeding as the two chased after Jason Meyers.
A caution on lap 12 would bunch the field back up, and that was just what KH needed as he raced his way by both Kaeding and Meyers to take over the race lead. Out in front, it was smooth sailing for Hirst as he again took a liking to the high scary side and distanced himself from the field.
Though Kaeding would cut into his sizeable lead in the final laps, Hirst would fend off the late challenge as he picked up his fifth KWS win of the 2016 season.
“This event is getting so big, and to have a weekend like we had is just awesome,” Kyle Hirst added. “Both the Tarlton and Roth Families have put me in a great spot this year, and we are clicking well. These wins were for both Jack Ventura and Peter Murphy. Huge thanks to Paul Baines and my guys for busting their butt’s for me.”
Kyle Hirst and the Tarlton Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Motorsports, Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, Corporate America Investments, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2016 season.
ON TAP: Kyle Hirst and the Tarlton Motorsports team will now head back up to the Placerville Speedway this coming Saturday night.
