Hirst Third at Merced Speedway as He Takes SCCT Point Lead

PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing back aboard the Tiner Hirst Enterprise No. 94 machine following a couple of idle weeks after Speedweek Northwest, Kyle Hirst had an eventful night at Merced Speedway on Saturday night that saw him end up on the podium and back atop the Sprint Car Challenge Tour point standings.

“We had quite the night,” Kyle Hirst said. “Everything that could have went wrong pretty much did, but these guys busted their butts and we managed to make it a pretty good night.”

Timing the THE/Larry Davis Farms/GP Development backed machine in second fastest in his qualifying group, Hirst would flex his muscle in his heat race as he made a couple of nice moves to late to pick up the win and move into the all important Dash.

Working his way into third, Hirst looked to be on his way to a second row starting position in the feature event, but he admittedly got out of the gas on the race’s last lap as he thought he took the checkered flag and relegated himself to an eighth place finish.

“I thought he dropped the checkered and I lifted and everyone went by,” Hirst said. “I don’t think I have ever done that in my career.”

Back in the pit area the race was on as the team made some wholesale changes to their machine and just narrowly made the call for the feature event. From the fourth row, Hirst would quick move into sixth where he ran until taking the fifth spot at the race’s halfway point.

Following a stoppage for fuel, Hirst would make a couple of nice moves to get into third as rubber began going down on the speedway. Battling with Justyn Cox for the runner up position, Hirst just couldn’t get by and capped his night with an extremely hard fought third place finish.

“I give it up to this team for working really, really hard on a hot day in Merced,” Hirst added. “We had a lot of fun, and really used some stuff that we figured out during speedweek to our advantage.”

The Tiner Hirst Enterprise Racing team would like to thank Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Larry Davis Farms, GP Development, Wright Process Systems, Fisher Racing Engines, SRP, Wilwood, XYZ Machine, DMI, HRP, Sway Away, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Sway Away, Schoenfeld, Warehouse Paint, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
