PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to his Rookie of the Year campaign at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Shane Hopkins would have a very good run going until a late mistake saw him lose several positions as he would officially finish 12th.

“We had a ton of speed and really made up a lot of ground from 13th,” Shane Hopkins said. “Unfortunately I was battling for fifth and packed the front end full of mud and couldn’t turn for a lap and we lost a ton of spots.”

Timing the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat backed No. 97 machine in 11th in qualifying time trials, the Cameron Park, CA driver would pick up a sixth place finish in his heat race and find himself in the seventh row on the starting grid for the 25-lap feature event.

Jumping up into 12th when the race came to life, Hopkins would showcase a very strong racecar as he moved into ninth on the race’s fourth lap. Working into eighth on the seventh lap Hopkins would lay down his fastest lap of the race as he continue to show speed and gain confidence in the LRB Ent./ADCO Driveline/C&H Veteran Enterprises entry.

Working up into sixth on the 16th lap, Hopkins would make a bid for fifth on lap 18, but a slight mistake would see him pack his front end full of mud as he would lose several positions and fall back to the 11th position.

Trying to race his way back forward in the race’s closing laps, Hopkins would press a little too hard as he took the checkered flag with a 12th place finish.

“It was a little disappointing to finish 12th, and I was mad at myself for making a mistake,” Shane Hopkins said. “Beating myself up most of the night, things got put into perspective waking up to the devastating news about Jason Johnson on Sunday and it doesn’t seem that bad. I was fortunate to be on the road a couple years ago with Desitny Motorsports, and our team raced again Jason Johnson, and I want to extend my condolences to his family in this time of need.”

Hopkins and Moxie Motorsports would like to thank Moxie Mechanical, Morrison Concrete, TNT Powdercoat, LRB Ent., ADCO Driveline, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Capital Ace Hardware, Johnson Motorsports, American River Overhead, Americote Painting, Gary Morgan Graphics, and ART Enterprises for their support in 2018.
