PETERSEN MEDIA- 2020 got off to a very strong start for Ian Madsen and KCP Racing as the new look team picked up for podium finishes in seven starts during Florida Speedweek.

“Tyler Swank and Adam Clark put together some extremely strong cars this winter, and we came out of the gate extremely fast,” Madsen said. “I would have loved to have gotten a win or two down there, but we are all pretty excited with the results we put together.”

Kicking the season off at Volusia Speedway Park, Madsen and company joined in for some All Star Circuit of Champions action. Battling with Brad Sweet and Cory Eliason, Madsen would take the first checkered flag of the season with a second place finish aboard the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed entry.

Continuing to run well on Thursday night, Madsen would find himself out front and in the lead in the early goings of the feature event on an extremely slick and abrasive surface. Getting into traffic, Madsen would have to make a slight adjustment to clear a car and it would result in him losing the lead and slipping back to third where he would close his night.

Going out late in time trials during Friday night’s opening event with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, Madsen could never dig out of the early hole and it would result in him missing the feature event.

Saturday night, Madsen returned to form and showcased that speed he had early in the week as he timed in eighth quickest and picked up the heat race win.

Winning the Dash, Madsen would again find himself out front, and in yet another battle with Brad Sweet for the top spot. On the race’s eighth lap, Sweet would slide up in front of Madsen entering turns one and two, and keeping his momentum on the top, Madsen looked to go around Sweet but misjudged the opening and slammed into the wall.

Taking a very hard ride down the fence, Madsen would climb from the wreckage okay, but his night would be over.

Battling an issue in time trials on Sunday night, Madsen would still race his way into the feature event as he closed the DIRTcar Nationals with a 13th place finish.

Traveling to East Bay Raceway Park on Monday and Tuesday to close out Florida Speedweek, Madsen would get back to his podium ways with the All Star Circuit of Champions.

Monday night, Madsen would earn hard charger honors as he had his elbows up on the 3/8 mile clay oval. Charging from eighth, Madsen would get up to second to for the second time of the season with the series.

One final night of action on Tuesday night saw the St. Marys, NSW native win his heat race, and his Dash, which put him on the front row alongside Kyle Larson.

Larson would get the jump over Madsen, but Madsen would continue to hold strong in the second position. Able to keep a good pace in traffic, Madsen would be unable to catch Larson, but would still finish second and score his fourth podium of the week.

“Huge thanks to everyone involved at KCP Racing for letting me do this with them another year,” Madsen said. “Really excited for the year ahead, and am pretty confident we can win some races.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, Cox Design and Fabrication, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P1  Race Wear, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
