PETERSEN MEDIA- Opening his 2015 calendar year at the Sydney Speedway on January 1st, 3rd, and 5th, Ian Madsen and his D&B Goodyer Developments team have been on a roll as Madsen has recorded two wins and a second place finish.
“The first part of the Speedweek deal I felt we were one of the fastest cars on the track on a nightly basis, things were not just going our way, and this past week, we stayed just as fast, but we were able to make some things happen,” Madsen said.
Kicking off the New Year on January 1st for the 50-lap feature event at the speedway, Madsen and his team were strong all night, and settled into the third spot as the race got under way.
Sitting in third for a majority of the show aboard his D&B Goodyer Developments/MK Excavating/Adornatio Sand & Gravel machine, Madsen chased after the lead duo of James Thompson and Sam Walsh.
As Madsen moved into the top spot on the 42nd lap, he looked to score the big win, but with four laps to go, Madsen got over the cushion, and slipped back to the fourth spot.
Showing poise, Madsen would work his way back forward, and take the lead for good with two to go, as he landed in victory lane on New Year’s Day!
“I tried to give it away, but Dave Sharman and my guys gave me a great car, I was able to slow down, and work back to the point,” he noted.
Returning to the Sydney Speedway on Saturday night, Madsen and company lined up in the 11th spot for a feature that would only have one caution flag.
With crew chief, Dave Sharman, and Madsen in a groove, Madsen gridded the field the utmost of confidence, and it showed, as he began working his way through the field with precision.
With his eye on Brad Sweet, Madsen would work into the second spot, as he looked to back up his win, but simply ran out of laps.
“Brad Sweet and his team have been so tough here, and to come from 11th with only one caution and make it interesting shows how strong our team is,” Madsen added.
Monday night Madsen and company put on an absolute show from the early going’s of the night, through the final checkered flag.
After winning his heat, Madsen made the shootout as the eighth car, and went on to win six shootouts to earn a front row starting spot.
Finding himself in the second spot early in the race, Madsen was one of the few who could work the tricky cushion, and used it to his advantage as he blasted into the lead on the ninth lap.
With Jamie Veal and Brad Sweet hounding him, Madsen was too good on this night, and won the race in convincing fashion.
“Brad Sweet has been the guy to beat at Sydney, and Veal has been very strong too, so to beat both of those guys a couple of times, really shows where this team is going,” Madsen added. “I can’t thank the Goodyer’s enough for giving me this fantastic opportunity, as well as my guys for working so hard.”
Madsen would like to thank D&B Goodyer Developments, MK Excavating, Adornato Sand & Gravel, Watsons Express Transport, Lucas Oil, QSS Speedway Spares, Revolution Racegear, Oval Express, and Dyden Signs for their support.
